A CD produced to raise money for the charity Barnardo's was launched in Driffield this week.

The song, called Mummy, This Song is for You, was written by Barnardo's volunteer and poet Ann Lowde, who lives in the town.

The CD was launched at the Barnardo's shop on Middle Street South in Driffield on Saturday.

Ten-year-old Charlotte Warren from Driffield was chosen to sing the lyrics of the song, a heart-warming reflection of a child's relationship with their mother.

Ann is hoping to smash through the £1,000 mark and boost Barnardo's funds with sales from the CD.

A competition to design the CD cover was thrown open to local children.

The winner , five-year-old Ethan Palmer from Driffield, will have his picture incorporated into the design of the CD sleeve.

Ann said: "I've chosen Barnardo's as it's a charity that's close to my heart. The work they do with children and their families is just amazing, they really do help to transform lives. I volunteer in the shop and get to hear about a lot of the good work that comes about because of the money we raise."

Ann added: "By buying the CD, people will not only get to enjoy a lovely song with lyrics that have brought tears to people's eyes, they'll also be helping children across the whole of Yorkshire."

Barnardo's business manager for the north, Lindsey Harris, said: "It's fantastic that Ann has taken the time to compose a song that will be sold to benefit Barnardo's. We'd like to encourage people to drop into their local Barnardo's shop and buy the CD to help support some of the 10,000 children that we work with across Yorkshire."

The CD will be on sale at the 18 shops across Yorkshire for £2.55.
