STAFF at Driffield's Northend Park and Gardens are celebrating after they scooped a prestigious Green Flag Award for the fifth year in the row.
This means the park and gardens has been judged again as being well-used, well-managed and environmentally sound and is a tribute to the work of maintenance staff and to the Friends of Northend Park for their continued support.

During a visit by j
udges, staff at the park were praised for their work and effort.

Paul Palmer, service development manager in environmental operations, for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will be collecting the award at a ceremony in Liverpool on Thursday, July 24, he said: "We're proud to have retained the award.

"Winning a prize is a tribute to the work of the Friends of Northend Park, Driffield Town Council and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's maintenance team who put so much work in. They are really pleased with this national award.

"We will get the judges' feedback in a few weeks time and we look forward to reading what they thought of the park."

Coun Jane Evison, portfolio holder for tourism said: "This award winning facility provides a fantastic public space for the people of East Yorkshire and is just one of the many attractions our region boasts to bring people to the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Winners will be announced from Green Flag Award-winning Bellingham Green, in an area of Lewisham highlighted by government as a transformed area of regeneration.

The Green Flag Award scheme is recognised as the standard for parks and green spaces.

This year a record 742 public green spaces countrywide received a Green Flag Award - the national standard for quality parks and green spaces.
