'MINDLESS' . . . that is how one Driffield man told the Driffield Post in response to the latest spate of vandalism at the town's cricket club which has caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Groundsman, Phil Skelton, has been busy clearing away glass and debris from the cricket green and tennis pavilion after windows and glass bottles were smashed.

It is believed that after 4.30pm on Friday August 22 a group of people entered the grou
nds of the club and spent some time drinking on the grandstand before moving on to the verandah at the tennis pavilion.
Six windows on the pavilion were smashed, scoreboard markers were thrown around and large areas of the grounds were covered with broken bottles and empty beer cans. Some items were driven into the cricket green.

Mr Skelton said: "It's just mindless. If they wanted to be in I would have left the doors open for them because there's nothing to steal."
This is the second time this year that the cricket club has been hit by vandals after a similar incident in March and the windows had recently been re-glazed by Mr Skelton after they were smashed at the end of last year.

Mr Skelton said: "I have only just re-glazed a lot of the windows because we had the same problem last winter. I have cleaned all the broken glass up and put some boards across the windows. It's pointless re-glazing them in case it happens again."

Mr Skelton estimates it will cost between £200 and £300 to repair the windows completely, something he is reluctant to do in case it happens again.

"It's just frustrating because we like to look presentable but if you're having smashed windows and are having to board them up it's demoralising," Mr Skelton added.

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Humberside police on tel 08456060222.
