A 16-year-old has appeared at Beverley Youth Court charged with the murder of a Driffield man.
The Bridlington youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with the murder of Paul David Midgley, 23, of Driffield, who died at Hull Royal Infirmary in the early hours of last Friday morning, August 15.

Mr Midgley died as a res
ult of injuries sustained during an alleged attack in Moorfield car park in Bridlington in the early hours of Saturday August 10.

It is believed Mr Midgley, who had recently moved to Driffield to live with his girlfriend, had been walking home alone to his parents' home after a night out with friends in Bridlington when the alleged incident took place.

The defendant, who was represented by Richard Fouler, spoke only to confirm his name and address during the brief hearing on Tuesday.

Carl Codd was present on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service.

Magistrates said the incident was considered to be a grave crime and the matter could only be dealt with at the crown court.

The youth has been remanded in custody at the Young Offenders Institute in Wetherby until September 16, when he will reappear at Beverley.

He is expected to answer to the charge of murder at Hull Crown Court on September 30.
