BOWLERS from Driffield and district came together to play in a memorial tournament for Langtoft member Phil Johnson who died earlier in the year.
The memorial competition took the form of a triples tournament, played at the Langtoft Bowls Club, and although it was initially rained off, it was rescheduled and completed last Saturday, August 23.

The winners of the competition was the ‘Abacus’ team, led by Tim Winter, who beat the team of June Hartley, Jenny Hayton and Pete Render in the final.

Altogether the tournament raised the sum of £1000 for the MacMillan Nurses in Bridlington. The cheque was presented on Saturday evening after the tournament finished.

The organisers of the tournament were Mick Baker and Keith Brent, who would like to thank the Langtoft Bowls Club for the loan of the greens, and groundsman Bill Moore. Thanks are also due to the ladies who helped out - Edna Brent, Kerry Brent and Trudy, and to Jane Baker who raised £250 from a raffle.
