SEVENTEEN-year-old Brandesburton golfer Matthew Daley underlined his potential when he just edged out his East Riding Golf Union team-mate Paul Lockwood (Hessle) to win the East Riding Boys Championship at Flamborough last week.
Matthew, who plays for Hainsworth Park Golf Club, shot rounds of 74 and 68 to win by just one shot from Lockwood who carded 73, 72 for a two round total of 145.

David Woodhead (Brough) finished third, six shots back on 151.

Best nett went to Jacob Ashford, a handicap 11 golfer from Hornsea, with 66,69 for 135.

Throughout, conditions were very wet and cold, but in spite of the difficulties, some of the scoring was excellent, with East Riding showing that some good youngsters are coming through.

Matthew and Paul also featured together for East Riding Union in their 18-all draw away to the Bradford Union on Sunday. Matt and Paul won their foursomes 3 and 2 against Karl Curran and Nigel Colbeck but Curran got his revenge in the singles, beating Matt by the same margin.
