Driffield Wolds Way Flying Club

Saturday, August 23rd, 5 members sent 33 birds to Berwick, liberated at 9.00 in a light north west wind.

Mr G Plant won the race with a blue bar cock taking its first card, this makes five wins in a row for Mr Plant’s pigeons.

In second place came E Potter & Son, another blue cock Janssen, with Mr Plant then taking the next seven positions. Those two members were the only two to clock birds in race time, making it another strange and difficult race for some pigeons.

Result: 1 G Plant 1306; 2 E Potter & Son 1248; 3 G Plant 1242; 4 G Plant 1238; 5 G Plant 1235; 6 G Plant 1232; 7 G Plant 1229; 8 G Plant 1223; 9 G Plant 1179; 10 E Potter & Son 1161.

Mr G Plant wins the Berwick trophy and 1st nominated pigeon. The bonus ball was not won.

Hutton Cranswick Homing Society

The race on Saturday August 16 was from Alnwick and was sponsored by Mr T Leach.

The club sent 41 pigeons, which were liberated early morning into a light south-easterly wind and everything looked good for a good race but for some reason the birds took 45 minutes longer than expected and again very few arrived home in decent race time.

However, Colin Sedman managed first again with one of his Roland Janssen cross Soontjens. Ken Suggitt was second with a beautiful black Krauth cross Janssen hen. Malcolm Mason was third and Colin Sedman won the club nomination with a grizzle cock, which has already had a first and two seconds this young bird season.

Result: 1 C Sedman 988; 2 K & E Suggitt 946; 3 M J Mason 901; 4 C Sedman 893; 5 C Sedman 800; 6 M J Mason 760.

A sign of the times, it's feared, as the club could only muster 24 pigeons to send to the race from Berwick on Saturday August 23.

Nevertheless, Malcolm Mason was pleased with an emphatic win by beating his rivals by 23 minutes. With a small hen bred form one of his good racers, which he calls hereford due to its red and white colour.

Colin Sedman was second and Ken Suggitt, who won the club nomination with his nice black hen, was third.
