DRIFFIELD boxer Curtis Woodhouse will be looking to make it eight wins out of eight when he steps back into the ring in Sheffield next month.
The welterweight has had a long wait to get back into the ring since his last win in June, after a planned July contest was called off.

But he is now due to step back between the ropes at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre on September 20. An opponent has yet to be named.

And Curtis told Times Sport this week that he is ready to get back into the ring again.

He said: “I want to get back in as soon as possible. I’ve been training all through the summer and I just can’t wait to get back in.”

It is also expected that Curtis will face another fight before the end of the year, should all go well next month.

And while the man himself believes he is ready to fight for titles, he is not looking any further than the next fight for the moment.

“I think I’m ready for an area title fight now, but they keep holding me back a little bit.

“I’ve got to get September 20 out of the way first. I could get knocked clean out and then it would be back to the drawing board.”

Next month’s contest forms part of the first show to be staged by Hayemaker Boxing, the promotions company formed earlier this year by world cruiserweight champion David Haye and his manager Adam Booth.

Ryan Rhodes, a stablemate to Curtis, tops the bill as he puts his British light-middleweight title on the line against Jamie Coyle of Stirling.

And Curtis said he believed it won’t be long before Rhodes is progressing to higher honours.

He said: “I’ve been sparring a lot with Ryan. There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be a world champion, maybe next year.”

Unbeaten super-bantamweight prospect Josh Wale from Barnsley is also set to appear on the bill, which is being broadcast on Setanta Sports.
